Udon Survives the Bangkok Heat Wave in Style
April in Bangkok is basically a sauna, and Udon has decided she will only leave the air-con room if someone carries her. Our flat in Ratchada faces west, so by four in the afternoon the floor tiles are almost too hot to stand on. I learned the hard way that the pavement near the soi can burn paws even when the sun only feels warm, so now her evening walk happens after nine when the road has cooled down.
Udon is a flat-faced Exotic Shorthair, which means her breathing gets tricky when it goes over 35 degrees. We keep a wet towel on the balcony tiles for her to lie on, a small fan pointed at her cat bed, and fresh water in three bowls around the flat. She acts annoyed about all of it, but she is definitely happier.
For paws, I check the pads with my hand before any outdoor time and wipe them with a damp cloth afterwards. She tolerates it because there is usually a treat involved. Stay cool, everyone! 😺

Udon really has the whole flat trained to carry her, huh.
