Keeping a Nervous Dog Calm on Loy Krathong Night
Loy Krathong night in our soi was loud. Fireworks started around eight, and Buddy, our mixed-breed rescue, was under the bed within minutes. She is nearly two years old and still learning that the bangs are not a threat.
What worked for us: close the bedroom curtains and run the fan or AC to mask the noise. Give her a long-lasting chew only on festival nights so it feels special. Walk her before dark, when the streets are still quiet, and keep the walk short. Do not force her toward the canal or the release spot. We went to the river alone and left her with a radio playing softly and a light blanket on the bed. She was calm when we got back.

A white-noise machine in the bedroom helped our cat too, so it's worth trying.

Fireworks are rough for so many dogs. Sunny used to hide under the bed too, so planning ahead really helps. Nice to see Buddy getting more comfortable, and I hope the next Loy Krathong is calmer for her.

Thank you for sharing this. The bedroom tip about closing curtains is something I'm going to use for Mocha and Leo next Loy Krathong.
