Mango the Tortoise and the Kids Next Door
We got Mango five years ago as a tortoise for the kids, and we all agreed he would be low maintenance. He is five and a half now, and he is absolutely the most low-maintenance member of the family. My two kids spent the first week carrying him around the living room, which he tolerated with the patience of a retired monk.
Then came the lettuce phase. Every morning they run to check whether he has eaten, and every morning he has eaten exactly one leaf and gone back to sleep under the cabinet. His enclosure sits by the window in our Rama 9 condo, and the kids now read him the weather every evening. He doesn't respond, but I think he likes the attention.

Mango sounds like the perfect low-maintenance family member. A shaded corner and a shallow dish of water are great for a tortoise. Your kids must have loved that first week. Thanks for sharing this.
