Pepper's Weekend in Hua Hin: What to Know Before You Go
Pepper is a six-and-a-half-year-old Labrador, which means he thinks every beach is his personal swimming pool. We drove down to Hua Hin for two nights last month, and I learned a few things the hard way.
First, many beach areas have rules about dogs on the sand, and the hours change. Check before you walk down, not after you have already let him off the lead. Second, the midday sun is brutal on paws. We walked him early in the morning and again after sunset, and carried a bottle of water and a fold-out bowl.
Third, book a hotel that says it is pet-friendly in writing, and ask about the fee and the room rules. Our first place was lovely but had a no-dog policy in the lobby, and we spent an awkward hour at reception while Pepper wagged at the staff.
He slept like a log in the car both ways, which was the best part of the trip. Still, I would rather plan ahead than improvise next time.

Our Noodle goes wild at beaches too, so I'll definitely read the dog rules before we go.
