Olive Goes to the Pet Fair and Judges Everyone

Olive is my nine-year-old Domestic Shorthair, and he is the most dignified cat I have ever met. So when I decided to take him to the pet fair in Sukhumvit last Sunday, I expected him to tolerate it with the look of a disappointed professor. I was half right.

The fair was loud, crowded, and full of dogs barking at everything. Olive rode in his carrier with his face pressed to the mesh, watching the parade of strangers like a tiny judge. When an overexcited poodle pulled toward us, he hissed once, very softly, and then turned his back on the entire event. Honestly, I felt the same way after the second hour.

But there was a lovely corner with a cat-friendly area, quiet, with soft mats. Olive stepped out, sniffed the air, and claimed a sunny spot by the window within three minutes. Another cat owner came over and said he looked like a king. I agreed, of course. He is a king.

We left after lunch with a bag of free treats, a new toy mouse, and a strong reminder that fairs are not for everyone. Olive slept on the sofa the whole afternoon, which I'm told is his official review of the day.
