Keeping a cat cool in Phuket heat, and protecting paws
Daifuku is an eight-year-old domestic shorthair, and she does not do well in the afternoon heat. Our house in Kathu gets hot fast, so I run the fan and keep a ceramic tile in her favorite corner. Walks happen only before 8 am or after sunset. Before she steps outside, I test the pavement with the back of my hand for a few seconds. If I cannot hold it comfortably, her paw pads will not like it either. I also check her paws after every outing for small cuts or grit.

I'm definitely going to try the tile trick for Simba this summer, he overheats so quickly on the sidewalk. Walking before 8 am is a great rule, I should start doing that too. Thanks for the paw tip as well. Daifuku looks very comfortable in that corner!

Daifuku's afternoon naps make sense now, Phuket heat is brutal. Your ceramic tile idea is brilliant, I'm going to try that for my cat too.

Daifuku is lucky to have someone who thinks about the heat this carefully. That corner by the fan looks like the perfect nap spot.
