Introducing a new puppy to my older Shih Tzu
Ruby is nearly ten, a Shih Tzu with firm opinions, so when we brought home a seven-week-old puppy last spring I kept the first meetings short. For two days they only sniffed each other through a baby gate. Feeding bowls stayed in separate corners, and I walked the puppy on a lead so Ruby could choose when to play.
Ruby still gets the first treat and the quiet spot by the window. Within a month they were sharing the sofa.

Loved reading about Ruby's puppy intro, the baby gate detail was really useful.

A baby gate really is the best investment for introductions like this.
