A Rainy Walk with Espresso Turned into an Adventure

On a Thursday evening it rained from the moment we finished work. Usually I walk Espresso around the garden behind our building for twenty minutes, but that night she decided she wanted to splash through the puddles on the pavement in front of our Sathorn soi, even while cars were sending water everywhere. So I let her lead. We hadn't gone far when she spotted a cat sheltering from the rain outside a tiny coffee shop. It looked homeless. I called a friend who volunteers with street animals, and she said to put some food nearby and wait. Instead of walking past, Espresso sat guard over the cat like a little bodyguard until it crept over to eat, one bite at a time. After an hour we were both soaked, and my blouse was caked in mud and needed washing. Still, we went home feeling much better. Now, whenever it rains, I keep a towel and a pouch of cat food in my bag, just in case another surprise shows up.
