Khlong Phlu Waterfall
Koh Chang's biggest waterfall, a short shaded jungle walk inland from Khlong Prao, with a large swimming pool; dogs on a lead, but check with rangers first.
Bringing your pet
Dogs are welcome on a lead on the forest path to Khlong Phlu Waterfall in Mu Ko Chang National Park (AllTrails), though one owner was turned away at the gate (Pantip).
- Terrain: The 500–600 m path has steps and handrails but turns rocky, steep and slippery in its second half.
- Swimming: Parts of the pool are deep, so only let strong swimmers in, on a long lead and away from people.
- Animals on site: Monitor lizards live along the stream.
- Entry & fees: Foreign adults pay 200 baht, 08:30–16:30; ask the rangers before paying, and never leave a dog in a hot car.
About
Khlong Phlu Waterfall is the largest and most visited waterfall on Koh Chang, in Mu Ko Chang National Park, inland from Khlong Prao. From the ranger checkpoint, a 500–600 m forest path with steps and handrails follows the stream to a three-tiered fall and a broad, cool pool where small fish nibble your feet. It has water almost all year; weekday mornings are quietest.
The path is shaded but gets rocky and steep in its second half, with wet rocks that are slippery in the rainy season, so watch your dog's footing. Parts of the pool are deep: only let strong swimmers in, on a long lead and away from people. Monitor lizards live along the stream. Afternoons and weekends are busiest.
Good to know: entry is 200 baht for foreign adults, and the same-day ticket also covers Than Mayom Waterfall. It is open about 08:30–16:30, with no food past the gate.
Getting there
From Khlong Prao, follow the main road toward Kai Bae and turn inland at the signed road, about 3 km from the village. It is about 2 km to the car park at ranger station KC.4, where locals may charge around 20 baht to park. Songthaews run from the ferry piers and west-coast beaches. From the ticket booth, the walk to the falls takes 10 to 15 minutes.
