Pound Learns to Swim at the Condo Pool
At sixty-seven, I never imagined I would be teaching a puppy to swim, but here we are. Pound is only five months old, a Thai Bangkaew with a curly tail and zero fear of anything, until she saw the condo pool in Chatuchak.
The first lesson was a disaster. She dug her claws into my arm, shook water all over the lifeguard and then sat on the steps looking extremely offended. I felt like the coach who had lost the team.
The second week she finally paddled three strokes before turning back to the stairs. I clapped so hard that the couple in the next lounger chair started clapping too. Now she jumps in after her ball without any drama, though she still insists on climbing out the moment she feels cold.
