Pao Meets the New Puppy: A Lesson in Patience
Pao is a six-year-old Samoyed, and for most of her life she has been the queen of our apartment in Silom. So when we brought home a fluffy puppy last month, I was not sure how she would react. The first day she simply walked to her bed and turned her back on the little one. I took that as a bad sign.
We kept them apart at first with a baby gate. After a few days, Pao started looking through the gate with her ears up, and the puppy barked at her with his tail wagging. It was almost like a conversation between an old professor and a student who never stops talking.
Now the puppy follows her everywhere, and Pao has accepted the role of a patient teacher. She still steals the best spot on the sofa, but she lets the puppy share the blanket, and that is enough for me.

How long did it take before Pao started playing with the puppy, or did she stay grumpy for weeks? And did you keep them separated at first?
