Our Grandkids Learned the Rules From Waffle
When the grandkids come to Patong for the school holidays, the house gets loud, and Waffle, our one-year-old mixed-breed cat, has very strong opinions about it. She has appointed herself head of security. Whenever the kids gallop down the hall, she sits in the middle of the rug, tail wrapped around her feet, and gives them a look that says she has seen it all before.
My youngest granddaughter tried to carry her like a teddy bear on the first day. Waffle politely escaped to the top of the wardrobe. Since then the kids have learned to ask first, and they call it the Waffle Rule. Gentle hands, soft voices, no chasing. It is the best house rule we have ever had, and I am glad a cat taught it to them.

We are going to try the same quiet-corner setup for our cat when my nephews visit at New Year. Thanks for the idea, it sounds like a good way to keep everyone happy.

When kids are around, try putting a small baby gate or a door in front of the room where the cat hides, so she can get away from the noise without being disturbed. Keep a few of her favourite toys nearby so she has something to focus on. A quiet window seat also helps, since cats like to watch what's going on from a high spot. Hope the holidays stay fun for everyone.

Waffle has exactly the right amount of attitude for a cat in charge of a busy house. Your grandkids are lucky to grow up with a guard cat like her.

How long did it take Waffle to accept the kids as part of the security team? Did you have to set up a separate spot where she can retreat to?

What does Waffle do once the kids are asleep, does she relax or keep patrolling? Do you have a special treat you give her after a loud day?

Waffle has clearly decided the hallway is hers and the kids are just temporary guests. Chopper would probably be too scared to go near her 😂

Ha, Waffle as head of security is the best. Imagine the kids trying to sneak past her. I'd love to know if the grandkids ever won a round. That little cat is serious business.

Loud holidays with kids can wear out even the calmest cats, so it's good she has her own spot to sit. Sounds like she's looking after everyone in her own way.

We have a cat tree near the balcony that works wonders when guests come over. Put it somewhere high and quiet, away from the main walkway, and most cats will settle in. It was a game changer for us. Hope Waffle finds her favourite spot again soon.
