Mickey the Corgi Guards a Kitten Stuck in the Drain

Mickey is a one-year-old corgi with short legs and a very big opinion about everything. Last Tuesday she spent twenty minutes whining at the storm drain outside our soi in Ratchada. I thought she had dropped her ball in there again, so I ignored her for a bit. Bad idea.

When I finally looked, a tiny kitten was stuck near the grate, meowing, one paw caught between two bars. Mickey stood right over it, tail wagging, not barking, just staying put like a little guard dog. Our neighbor brought a torch, and the security guard helped us lift the grate with a broom handle.

The kitten was thin and muddy but completely fine, and it bit my finger right away, which I took as a good sign. We called it Pla Mee and got it checked at a clinic nearby. Mickey still thinks she is the hero of Ratchada, and honestly, she is.
