Matcha's Slow Weeks at Home After His Operation
Matcha is a five-and-a-half-year-old Border Collie who usually sprints for every ball in the garden. Since his operation he has been much quieter, and I have had time to think about how fast life moves when you have a dog who is always busy. The vet asked us to keep him calm for a few weeks, which is harder than it sounds with a herding dog in a Thonglor flat.
We have settled into a slower routine. Short leash walks in the early morning, a rug by the sofa, and a lot of quiet time together. He follows me from room to room now, which I did not expect.
I am grateful for the slow weeks. I think we both needed them.

How did you keep Matcha calm in the first few days? My Gyoza is a Shih Tzu, but I can imagine a Border Collie going crazy with rest. Did he get frustrated, and what did you do about it?

So Matcha is finally learning that a ball can wait.

A snuffle mat kept our dog busy during recovery, might help Matcha too.

Tip: a food puzzle or a snuffle mat can keep a busy dog calm during rest time. Cheddar goes crazy for those too.
