How Kiwi Finally Trusted Me, One Biscuit at a Time
Kiwi came to us from a rescue shelter in Bang Phli four months ago, and for the first month he hid behind the washing machine whenever anyone walked past. He is a seven-year-old mixed breed with a brown patch on one ear and a very loud heart.
I did what the shelter staff told me: no hugs, no staring, just sitting on the floor with a book and tossing him treats near my feet. It was slow, very slow, and I almost gave up on a Sunday evening.
Then one night he jumped onto my lap without warning and fell asleep, snoring. I did not move for two hours in case he woke up.
Now he waits for me at the door when I come home from work, tail wagging like crazy. I get so excited every time he greets me that I forget how tired I am!

I am going to try the biscuit method with my own rescue dog this week, because he also hides behind the washing machine whenever someone walks by. Going slow and letting him come to me sounds much easier than forcing it. I really liked how honest you were about that first month. Good luck to Kiwi and your whole family.

I love the line about Kiwi having a very loud heart, that tells me a lot about him already.
