Entering Dum in a Photo Contest: Practical Notes

Dum is a Labrador Retriever puppy, not quite a year old, and when a local pet photo contest opened for entries I decided to try. He refused to sit still at first, so I used a treat held by my friend just out of frame. Here is what I learned.

Shoot in daylight, near a window or outside in the shade, since flash makes dogs squint. Get down to his eye level. Take thirty photos and pick the best three, because a puppy will not hold a pose for long. Check the rules for file size and whether they accept edited photos.
