A Long Drive to Khao Yai With Our Pomeranian Taro
Taro is a six-year-old Pomeranian with more energy than any dog I have met. For her birthday weekend we decided to drive from our home in Ratchada to Khao Yai, about two and a half hours on the highway. I was nervous, but she sat in her travel carrier like a little queen.
We stopped every two hours for water and a short walk at the rest areas. She sniffed every bush and wagged at every truck driver who waved at her. The air conditioning was set just right, and she slept the last hour with her head resting on my bag.
At the cafe we found a quiet garden where she could roam on her leash. Big trees, a cool breeze, and she looked so happy I almost cried. The drive home was even easier because she was so tired.
If you plan a long trip with your dog, my advice is simple: take many breaks and bring extra water.
